iOS 18 is packed with new features, however, not all features will be available until iOS 18.1 or later. We’re breaking down the most important ones for you
iOS 18 is one of the biggest updates to the iPhone operating system in its entire history. Undoubtedly, Apple Intelligence and other functions are expected by all users.. Unfortunately, a good portion of the features won’t be ready until iOS 18.1 (or later according to Apple). That’s why In recent iOS 18 betas, no trace of the features was found. For example, Apple Intelligence will be launched in beta phase but until the release of iOS 18 it has not yet been seen in all its glory. Let’s see what other new features will come in iOS 18.1
Siri: On-screen actions and recognition
Apple Intelligence will get a lot of support and it will be through Siri, which features a revamped interface. Interestingly, Apple has kept the best of Siri’s capabilities in terms of On-screen actions and recognition will only be available later. Siri’s knowledge of what we see on the iPhone screen will be crucial for making requests in the future.
Context is very important, so it will have a history within a single app. For example, you can ask it to read content that a friend or contact sent you via Messages or another app.
Mail and its message categorization
With Mail’s new features, many users might consider using it again as their email app instead of other alternatives. For example, Message categorization won’t come until iOS 18.1. There are other native apps like Notes and Messages that will provide timely information.
New Emojis (not Genmoji)
Like every year, Unicode offers a new series of emojis that will arrive in iOS 18 but it is probably until the end of the year or early 2025. So we don’t have much hope for a possible arrival on iOS 18.1.
On Apple’s side, they will be releasing Genmoji as part of Apple Intelligence, although that might not be available due to what happened with the European Union.
iPhone Mirroring: Drag and Drop
It is likely that iPhone Mirroring has one action not available with iOS 18: drag and drop files between iPhone and Mac. It is still unclear how Apple will be able to release these functions halfway. We can interact with the device as those from Cupertino have taught us, but what makes this function attractive is the fact of being able to move files easily.
It is worth mentioning that iPhone Mirroring is one of the functions, along with Apple Intelligence, that will not reach the EU.
If you use the Home app, you’ll notice some features missing in iOS 18
Users who already have their very own ecosystem within the Home app will miss out on two of the most compelling features available in iOS 18. For example, the function to see the electricity consumption of your home in the application and possibility to add robot vacuum cleaners in compatible devices They will only arrive later with iOS 18.1.
What other major new features do you hope to see in the official release of iOS 18?
