It’s been many years since Apple stopped selling the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule, but they’re still on their last legs. I’ve found them myself in some customers’ homes, and they’re cheap options on the used market.
And it’s just in a second-hand store where the user dankeunextgay found a Time Capsule in good condition for only $15. He took it home, and when he plugged it in, he found one hell of a surprise.
The fact that I have access to all of this is insane.
The user comments on his experience in several videos posted on TikTok: the Time Capsule’s hard drive had not been erased before its sale, nor protected by a password. So he came across all copies of Time Machine from the previous owner, someone named Don. “Sorry Don, I’m watching all your shit,” Dankeunextgay said.

This Don had backup copies of his entire Mac up to 2010, including all of his personal files. In this second video we can see how the Downloads, Music, Pictures… folder is explored… “there is information about credit cards, flights, investments… I think it’s a CEO or something like that, there is information about your balances and you have millions of dollars
Dankeunextgay does not take advantage of the situation, however, and warns everyone: “Never give away or sell your old technology”, he warns. And you’re absolutely right: formatting a hard drive is an easy task, and we should always do it before handing it over to someone else.
The TikToker has a final video talking about the case in which he states that he is looking for the family of the owner of the Time Capsule, so that he can at least give them all the family photos that were in the backup. Who knows, maybe these are photographs that this family considered lost. Quite a gesture.
