Apple’s first iPhone is a much-desired legacy!
Due to their rarity or exclusivity, many items bearing the bitten apple logo have been auctioned for millions in different auctions. But none had the quality that distinguishes the last piece solda few days ago : An original iPhone.
The story is well known. On June 29, 2007, the original iPhone went on sale in the United States, with many virtues, but also flaws that predicting its success is not an absolute opinion for most. But fifteen years later, one of the most successful took advantage of the device which at the time, it was selling for $499.
The original iPhone is sold at an incredible price
As advertised months ago on the auction house’s official website LCG Auctions, an originally sealed iPhone would be part of the next editions. The day has finally come one user paid $40,000 for the tech relic. Regarding the high sum paid, Mark Montero, founder of LCG Auctions said:
A handful of avid and sophisticated collectors bumped the price from just over $10,000 on Sunday afternoon to that all-time high on Sunday night.
On the item’s listing page, LCG Auctions describes it as follows:
“One of the most important and ubiquitous inventions of our lifetime, the iPhone was first demonstrated by Steve Jobs on January 9, 2007 at MacWorld in San Francisco. The original iPhone featured 4/8 GB of storage, an innovative touchscreen, a 2-megapixel camera and a web browser. The iconic box featured a life-size image of the iPhone with 12 icons on the screen. It quickly became the most popular product from Apple, forever changed the smartphone industry and was named Time magazine’s Invention of the Year in 2007.”
Other than the value of the purchase, no other details have been disclosed about the new owner of this collector’s item, who If kept in its original condition, it could be worth much more at a future auction.
Since the original iPhone, mobile devices have ceased to be what they used to be to emulate the concept of the Apple device. Thus, this revolution started 15 years ago continues to bear fruit, even outside of Apple.
