The camera is one of the most important aspects for users when deciding on one model or another. It is not for nothing that the creators of the phones always improve the module with the lenses. The processor can help and digital computing can help sharpen an image, but without the lenses there is nothing you can do. For this reason, Apple, like many others, prefers third-party companies with experience in the industry to take care of this step. Rumors indicate that Sony will be in charge of making the iPhone 15 a versatile device even in the most difficult lighting conditions.
A new rumor about the iPhone 15, and we have the 14 model almost fresh out of the oven, indicates that Sony will take care of mounting a new sensor in the iPhone camera with the aim of taking more photos sharper and more precise in poor light conditions. So, at least one new Nikkei report says, “Sony Group will supply Apple with its latest state-of-the-art image sensor.” In this way we will have the best of Apple with the latest from Sony and if it is something similar to the Sony Alpha cameras, I can assure you it will be great. It will ensure that in low light conditions photos are taken as if nothing had happened.
This new image sensor from Sony approximately doubles the saturation signal level at each pixel compared to conventional sensors. In other words, the sensors they can catch more light and reduce overexposure or underexposure in certain environments, allowing a smartphone camera to “clearly photograph a person’s face, even if the subject is standing against strong backlight”. A real marvel. No wonder someone dares to say that phones will replace traditional cameras. Sony uses a semiconductor architecture that places photodiodes and transistors on separate layers, allowing for more photodiodes.
It’s unclear whether all iPhone 15 models will use the new sensor technology, or if Apple will limit it to the high-end iPhone 15 “Pro” models.
