With WWDC just a few weeks away, reports of what we could see are starting to come in more frequently. The latest comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who made an appearance on The MacRumors Show and talked about some of the features we might see in iOS 17, the next major overhaul of the iPhone operating system.
The major change that Gurman is talking about is that Apple might allow sideloading in iOS 17, but it will only be available in Europe. Apple has to do this to comply with the Digital Markets Act, but the reports don’t say whether Apple would make sideloading a regional feature or bring it to the rest of the world. Gurman also reports that Apple will charge a fee to developers who want to participate in any non-Apple service selling apps.
While Apple is unlikely to pay much attention to sideloading during the WWDC keynote, Gurman also touched on two new features that Apple will be covering: changes to the Wallet and Find My apps. . He didn’t give details on what changes we might see in these two apps, but Apple recently added Apple Pay Later and Apple Card Savings to the Wallet app to make it a more regular destination for financial services.
it has previously been reported that Apple will include some of the “most requested features” from iPhone users in iOS 17. While this may be marketing language for a glorified maintenance release, iOS 17 could also become one of the most satisfying releases for some time. Complaints from long-time iPhone users could finally be addressed. To keep up with the latest rumours, be sure to visit our iOS 17 superguide regularly ahead of the June 5 WWDC keynote.
