For the past two years, rumors that Google Stadia will shut down have been popping up on the internet; Coincidentally, the service is only two years old in its stable version. In other words, it seems that Stadia is stillborndespite the fact that it has some interesting advantages over other video game streaming services.
[Google Stadia es tan complicado de entender que han tardado un año en explicarlo correctamente]
Stadia allows us to play the main titles on practically any device, regardless of its power. Some of the latest releases like Saints Row are already available on the platform, with the promise of future bestsellers like FIFA 23
Stadia, now with 1440p resolution
Despite all this, Stadia failed to gain a foothold in player conversations, and this caused the rumors about its cancellation increase; Google itself hasn’t helped, shutting down its game development studio for Stadia, opting for third-party deals to bring their games to the platform.
Now, those rumors seem to have been debunked as Google continues development on Stadia with the release of a new feature. More specifically, it is the 1440p resolution supportwhich we can now select from the configuration menu.

Stadia already supported this resolution, but there was no way to select it. Normally this would kick in on its own if we tried to run games at 4K resolution on a display that doesn’t quite reach that resolution; but now we can select it manually, and there are good reasons to do so.
For many gamers, 1440p (also known as 2K) resolution is the middle ground between image quality and performance; while the latter shouldn’t be an issue with Stadia, keep in mind that 4K resolution may be too much for many networks and internet connections. Google itself specifies that this new mode only requires 14.4 GB for each hour of play, compared to 20 GB per hour that 4K consumes.
Therefore, it is recommended to switch to 1440p resolution if we have a monitor with this resolution, of course, but it can also be very useful if our connection is not very good, because will look much better on a 4K monitor or TV compared to 1080p resolution. At the moment, this option only appears for Stadia Pro users (i.e. those who pay for the subscription), and only on desktop, without knowing if it will come to Google TV, Android and the rest of the platforms.
