With the amount of rumors we hear about the Apple Car, it’s easy to think, given the development times required, that they are just rumors. What is certain, however, is that the supply chain he is already starting to make movements to be able to participate of the manufacture of the Apple Car.
The big manufacturers are preparing their machines
As reported in DigiTimes, Foxconn, the main iPhone maker, and Luxshare Precision, maker of AirPods, for example, are already gearing up to earn the privilege of producing the Apple Car. Foxconn took steps to make electric vehicles last year, including a software platform to help automakers. Similarly, Luxshare has partnered with Chery, a Chinese company, to manufacture vehicles.
While it’s true that Apple isn’t going to start placing orders with these manufacturers now, the companies have already they position themselves to be the key to the chain of supplies. According to DigiTimes, the most common companies to partner with Apple in an early production of the Apple Car are Hyundai and Magna International, as they have more experience in the industry.
Remember that these two were brands that hit the headlines when their relationship with Apple was the subject of rumors around the Apple Car, moreover Hyundai has even publicly confirmed this relationship. Companies that, although they may be the first options, must be able to compete with the production capacity of Foxconn or Luxshare, which, precisely for this reason, are expanding their positions.
As we started by saying, the Apple Car looks a long way off, sure, but its development has been ongoing for several years. If we pay attention to the rumors about manipulated dates, this car is closer than far. Reuters predicts the start of production in 2024, two years from now, while Ming-Chi Kuo talks about 2025 or 2027, notably later. Either way, the Apple Car is taking shape, and its makers are getting ready.
