Google is working tirelessly to End the Android Malware Problemone of the most common threats we face on our devices. We have already mentioned the efforts of the tech giant, which in 2023 alone prevented more than two million malicious apps from being published on its App Store.
There are different types of malware and some are extremely dangerous, such as banking Trojans. The problem of malware has led companies like Samsung to implement measures to prevent installation of malicious applications on your devices. This is the case of Auto Blocker, a tool enabled by default on Samsung phones to strengthen the security of the device.
Google’s new measures aim to weed out poor-quality apps
In order to protect Android users from malware, Google is working hard to continue improving Play Protect. It is a tool that automatically scans all the applications we have installed on mobile and alerts us if something suspicious is detected. We know that Google continues to work to improve Play Protect, which will soon even be able to quarantine suspicious applications.
The Play Protect improvements aren’t the only changes coming to Google’s operating system: Forbes reports that Google wants to improve the quality of apps available on the Play Store by tightening the requirements for app distribution through the Store. Google announced the changes in mid-July, and they’re just now going into effect.
As we can see in a post on Google’s support page, the company has updated its spam and minimum features policy in order to “ensure that apps meet the enhanced Play catalog standards.” Google clarifies that apps must provide a stable user experience and emphasizes that will not allow applications that fail or lack a minimum of utility.
The company presents several examples of apps that would not meet the requirements to appear on the Play Store, such as Static applications without any functionality
Given the changes mentioned throughout the article, Google could remove from the Play Store apps that do not meet the necessary requirements. Without a doubt, this is a move that will help improve the quality of applications which is found in the Play Store, which greatly benefits users of Google’s operating system.
