Take JPG or ProRaw photos on IPhone 15 Pro?

During several editions, the photographic formats were maintained, to be able to use the JPG and RAW, two essential variables in photography. With Raw it’s different, since the photograph is raw, that is, the image is not compressed and all the information captured by the sensor is saved as it is. When we look at the image we see that it is erased or altered, but it is this internal information that counts. It contains a lot more information and with 4 or 5 times more weight. This format is therefore perfect, because it contains much more information about shadows, lights, colors, among others. Therefore, much higher quality. Now you have to edit it with a program to make it perfect.

What’s in Apple ProRaw format?

He The ProRaw format is created similar to Raw. Both share the same characteristics, since a photo taken is completely complete in information. Apple integrates this format because Raw cannot be established on a device of such magnitude, because it would be too poor, it therefore integrates the ProRaw.

Said photograph can be retouched with complete precision and adjust it much better than with a JPG format, since Raw offers us raw photography, as we have already mentioned. The idea is always shoot in ProRaw then think about further editing, because with normal editing in JPG we can try to create a desired effect that we will not get later because it is limited.

How can we use ProRaw and enable it on our device?

From iOS version 14 to iOS version 17 and current, you can take photos with our device. On iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max, you can use the camera to take photos in Apple’s ProRAW format. Also with iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max this format can be used.

It can be used on all phone cameras including the front one. But Portrait option cannot be used for this format. To activate this configuration we enter: Configuration or Settings > Camera > Format and enable ProRaw.

How to take a photo with ProRaw?

• We open the application Camera > Formats and then we play enable ProRaw.
• We take the photo. As we take it, we can choose between Raw and NOT Rawi.e. enable or disable it.
• In order to keep the ProRaw configuration, we access Settings > Camera > Keep settings and enable ProRaw.

With ProRaw you can change resolutions

Come in Settings > Camera > Formats > Default professional format, we can access the resolution of the photo. We choose between 12h or 48h.

What differences exist between the two resolutions?

The difference is simple, at 12h we will have a type of resolution on the photo and in 48 hours, the resolution is much higher. But obviously the controls are applied and determined whether it’s worth doing or not.

For example, if you want to take an image that requires the maximum resolution, you can configure this format. If the idea is to apply it to all photographs, we should think about it. If we take all photos at the highest format, we will have a much heavier iCloud backup than usual. Additionally, shots will not be agile and you will have to wait some time between photos until they are saved.

And the quality? It’s worth it? It is obvious that at 48 megapixels we will have a photo with more details, but compared to 24 megapixels the difference is not big, since at 24 we already have good photo quality.
