They found that the Apple Studio Display is internally identical to an iPhone 11.
One of the big surprises at the start of the year was the new Apple Studio Display, a 27-inch screen with 5K resolution, 6 speakers compatible with Apple Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos and lots of technology inside. However, after its release it has been found that internally it is almost identical to an iPhone 11 or a ninth generation iPad.
During the presentation of the Apple Studio Display, the company revealed that inside there is the chip A13 bionic, the same chip found in the iPhone 11, iPhone SE 2020, and ninth-generation iPad. Additionally, it looks like the Apple Studio Display with Center Frame’s 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle front camera is the same as the latest affordable iPad or the new iPad Air.
After initial testing of the display, it was discovered that when you connect the Studio Display to a Mac and click System Information > Graphics/Displays, you can see the software it is using, showing that it is working “Release 15.4 (Build 19E241)”. It’s the exact same build number as iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4indicating that the screen is running a full version of iOS.
And now developer Khaos Tian has revealed that Apple’s new store shows off 64GB of internal storage, although it only uses 2GB of each, that’s probably what the OS takes up. This makes sense, none of the devices with the A13 Bionic chip have been available in storage configurations below 64 GB, which may suggest that smaller amounts of NAND storage are incompatible with the storage controller of the A13 Bionic.

In short, internally an Apple Studio Display isn’t too different from an iPhone 11 or ninth-generation iPad. The main difference is in the 27-inch panel, but in terms of specifications we are faced with three practically identical devices. Of course, the software is something else.
Even so, using such a powerful chip and having a full version of iOS as its operating system, the Apple Studio Display does not work on its own, that is to say we can’t start it and see a desktop with applications. It is still a screen and we will need another device like a Mac to be able to use it, even if the real possibilities exist.
