Google Maps is a go-to for all things travel, but it doesn’t always have the data to plan the route to the next vacation destination. There is an app that comes from a benchmark in the world of tiresMichelin, and which offers this valuable information to know how much all the tolls to the destination will cost with the vehicle.
Google already announced last year that its Maps application would have the ability to offer the user the total cost of tolls you will encounter on your way to your destination, but at the moment it is not available in Europe, so you have to look for a little life and for this there is no better alternative than the Michelin app, available both from its website Web and from its Android or iOS applications.
ViaMichelin.es is the website that offers this very valuable information for calculating a route. Simply from the left panel, you can enter the source address then put the destination address and thus click on the ‘Search’ button. Before giving this button It is recommended to click on the ‘options’since it allows you to choose between the different modes of transport (tourism, motorcycle, bicycle, person), type of car (to know its average consumption), type of fuel, fuel cost (there is already a default amount for the average daily cost) and route options.
But it is on the site that the app, downloadable on Android or iPhone, allows enter the vehicle model for even more settings in the total fuel consumption (which gives the exact price of the total dedicated expenditure according to the model); in fact, the app is very neat in its design. That is, just below the four modes of transportation, click on ‘Add my car’, and fill in all the data. An aside: to provide this information you will need to create a Michelin account; which can be registered with a Google.
- Download ViaMichelin on Android.
- Download ViaMichelin on iOS.
In this last option you can choose from the fastest to the shortest (in time) as well as to the economical one. But what really matters is know the price of tolls (You can even activate the filter to avoid highways or tolls on the route), you have to search for the route so that three recommended ones appear.
On the map you can see the three recommended routes and its three sheets offering summary information. It should be noted that this summary shows the journey time, the kilometer, the total cost incurred (this is where the total tolls to be paid are reflected) and the carbon footprint. The expense that tolls will entail are already well known here and which are exactly 16 dollarsbut if you want to know the number of tolls and the cost of each, just click on ‘Detailed cost’ located in the information part of the sheet or in the equivalent in the app just after ‘route map’.
This is where you are the most valuable information provided by the Michelin application: total tolls with the sum of each, as can be seen in the shared image. In this case it is 16 dollars: 5.60 for Malaga, 5.10 for Calahonda, 3.20 for San Pedro and Manilva at only 2.10 dollars.
Information provided by ViaMichelin.es It is also used for other services of great interest on these dates as it should be BlaBlaCar, which to offer the different routes when publishing a trip only offers this information so that it can be shared with potential passengers who will make the reservation. In short, a great app from Michelin while waiting for Maps to be updated with this information in Europe.
