The wait is over. WhatsApp has just officially announced the arrival of what is probably the most anticipated feature of the platform, the transcription of voice messagescommonly called “audios”.
In other words, if you receive audio and you don't want or can't listen to it, now you can read its content. The function has already started to be available for all Android devices and is compatible with our language. Next, we explain how you can use it on your smartphone.
How to enable audio transcription in WhatsApp
Audios can be very useful for communicating in our chats, but sometimes they can also be annoying. If we are in public and we don't have headphones with us, for example, listening to audio can be a little uncomfortable. Likewise, if we receive a voice message while we are busy at work, sometimes we it's easier to read than to listen.
Now that's exactly what we'll be able to do. The transcription is available on WhatsApp for Android in the stable version of the applicationthat is, this function reaches all users and is not only available in the beta version.
To activate it, we follow these steps:
- We go to WhatsApp then access the application settings menu
- Then we access the section 'Discussions' in the menu
- Finally, we activate the transcription voice messages. It is necessary to download the language pack which, in the case of Spanish, has a size of approximately 138 MB. This should only be done the first time
To transcribe the messages, simply hold audiothen tap the three-dot button in the upper right corner and select “Transcribe”.
Another, even quicker way to enable voicemail transcription is to simply try to transcribe a message. The first time we do it, the application will invite us to enable transcription and download language pack.
Audio transcription offers good results, according to our tests. Of course, this may vary depending on the clarity of the messageboth in diction and if there is a lot of background noise or interruptions when recording audio. However, it is a very useful tool for those times when we cannot listen to a voice message, or we simply do not want to.
This feature now reaches all Android mobile users. If you haven't received it yet, it will be available on your device very soon.
