2021 is drawing to a close. There are literally days of the year left, and now is a good time to look back and see what has worked best throughout the season. In this case, which apps are the ones that the Xataka Android team considers the best of the year. The best Android apps of 2021, but ours, not the best in general.
So said and done, we asked each of our colleagues which app they thought was the best this year. Not only applications born during the year, but all of them. Which one did they use the most, which one was the most useful to them at specific times or those who do not move their mobile even if they format it a thousand times. We asked them and that’s what each of them told us.

2021 has been a year best not taken too seriously, so my favorite app for this year is Wombo. It’s an extremely silly app with which you can create deepfakes with your face – or anyone else’s – singing timeless hits like “I’ll Survive” or “Dragostea Din Tei”. It doesn’t matter if you are 7 or 70, after five minutes of having fun with Wombo, you will surely forget that we have had a pandemic for two years and the incipient collapse of Western civilization, which is no small thing.

One of my featured apps for this year 2021 is MoneyBox. There are thousands of apps for setting savings goals, but in the end, the simpler the better. This app is as simple as entering a savings amount, the date you want to have that figure and automatically gives you data on the monthly amount you need to set aside to reach that amount on the date desired.
It also has a very cool widget which tells you the percentage you have reached against the goal, something very motivating to continue contributing month by month

The best app I’ve discovered in the past year (and one of the ones I use the most every day) is Children Up. The pandemic has forced preschools to move away from paper agendas and use digital agendas instead. With KinderUp, parents can follow the daily activity of our children (naps, meals, temperature, etc.) and consult the school calendar, flyers, the school menu …
It also offers statistics to check the progress of the child, sends notifications to the mobile and you the possibility of communicating directly with the teachers. But surely, for me, the best function is the gallery, where you can view and download photos and videos of school activities.

Carrying the COVID Certificate on the phone seems to me something basic today, also having a tool with which check that the certificates are still working (They often deteriorate, at least those printed on paper). To solve both ballots, I trust Corona Warn-App: it is an application promoted by the German government that not only works great, but it is also safe and open source. Very recommendable.

This app is developed by OnePlus and is suitable for almost all Android devices (and even iPhones or computers). Clipt allows an online clipboard with which you can copy and paste texts regardless of the device you are on: once the application is installed, the clipboard is unified. Even with copied files: Clips allows you to easily send documents, photos or videos from your mobile to your computer (and vice versa). I find it super useful.

The app of the year for me is one that I already knew, but that until a few months ago I had not started using it regularly. It is Todoist, the task app that is currently my main productivity tool.
I was using Notion and while I love the possibilities it offers, the mobile app leaves a lot to be desired. This is the main reason why I decided to change and in this sense, Todoist delivers with note. The application is simple, intuitive and syncs seamlessly with the desktop version. It’s also on all platforms.

Google TV app This is for me the best thing that 2021 has left us for its great aspiration to become the universal application for our streaming services. In one place I have access to Amazon Prime video, Disney +, HBO Max and Viki series and movies, so you no longer have to search for each of your applications. Plus, it notifies me when a series or movie on my list reaches one of my subscriptions. The only big downside is that it’s not currently part of the Netflix catalog, but it’s something that I hope will be resolved over the next year or so.

2021 has been a year full of goals in many ways, but I think health was the most important one for me. So as going out has become a risky activity due to the pandemic, I decided to consider getting in shape at home, and started using the dumbbells more. And what do I do with them? I thought. Well, I looked for an application that accompanied me this year and called “Dumbbell workout at home “. You can’t say he has good marketing, but he definitely has good SEO.
It is an application with exercise routines already programmed according to the goal you want to achieve, from a simple interview to becoming the most attractive person in the C-137 universe. In addition, almost everything is editable With which you can vary the weights, number of sets, repetitions, introduce other exercises, build custom programs, etc. Definitely, highly recommended. I decided to pay (it’s voluntary) and I’m very happy with it.

At the end of last year, I decided to focus all the stats of the music I listen to on Last.fm, be what I listen to on Spotify, CDs digitized in FLAC on my computer, or what I listen to on CD and vinyl on musical material. And so, the official application of the service has become a staple throughout 2021. And it is that when I want I can watch the artists that I have listened to the most, the songs or the genres of each week, month. or year.
On top of that, I also became a Pro user of the service, which generates specific reports every week, month or year where you can see the most listened genres and albums, and an evolution with all the data. Yes, maybe if you are not a sick music geek, maybe this app doesn’t mean too much to you despite the service being over ten years old, but for me it’s there. ‘one of my daily companions.

Over the past few years, I have tested different password managers, and until now I had always gone for paid ones. However, at the start of the year I decided to donate Microsoft Authenticator as a password manager, and I don’t plan on changing it again. The app was originally created as a two-step verification system, but more recently it has added the feature of saving and syncing passwords between devices.
To work I use Chrome, and there is an extension that I use. For my personal issues I use Microsoft Edge and its passwords are directly implemented in the browser itself. For Android and iOS, the Authenticator app is also a must have, because when I try a new mobile or reset it, it’s a handy way to always have them all close at hand.
