In 2019, Google Maps began integrating road incident warnings in the purest Waze style. Since then, we can report problems in real time from Google Maps, but only if we use it on mobile. To the great dismay of users, Unable to report issues from Google Maps on Android Auto.
Last week, some users using Google Maps on CarPlay realized they could report incidents, even though it wasn’t possible on Android Auto. Now, Google has confirmed that you’ll be able to too Report accidents from Maps on Android Autofirst in India.
Reporting Driving Incidents
For five years, Google Maps has allowed us to report incidents, although to date the function is not yet active on a large scale. However, the paradox has occurred: Google Maps asks us to report driving incidents but It didn’t let us do that on its driving platform, Android Auto.. Maps users on Android Auto have been asking for this to be possible.
Google finally relented, announcing that Google Maps accident reports would be available on all platforms: Android, iOS, Android Auto and CarPlayThe fine print indicates that the announcement is for India, though there’s no reason to think it wouldn’t be a good idea to do the same globally. In fact, CarPlay users have encountered these reports in other countries as well.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Google indicates that Reports have been simplified to require fewer keystrokes
- Collision. When a rear-end accident occurs between two vehicles.
- Retention. When there is a traffic jam at a certain time.
- Construction. If a section or an entire road is under construction.
- Lane cut. If it is a multi-lane road and you cannot drive on one of them.
- Damaged vehicle. If we find a vehicle that has just been in an accident and is an obstacle to traffic.
- Object on the road. Any other object on the road that poses a danger to traffic.
- Radar. To report a speed check at a given time.
Google has announced it and now we need to know where the button will appear in Android Auto. The normal thing would be for the button to arrive with the redesign of the buttons that we saw last year, which would allow this button closer to the driveras well as compass, audio and zoom, but as of yet we have not been able to confirm that this is the case.
