A few days ago OPPO presented its new flagship product in Europe, a terminal that promises a top-notch photography experience. The OPPO Find X8 Pro arrived in our country after two years without presenting its best mobile phones in these latitudes, due to a change in the company's strategy.
The brand wants to clarify that Europe is a critical market and they are not going to give up and leave it to Samsung or Xiaomi. To do this, they decided to demonstrate that they continue to fight to be the reference in photography, with a terminal that has already shown us what it is capable of but which we have not yet been able to test.
This model is on sale in a single configuration of 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage at a cost that, while not low, does not reach what Samsung and Apple ask for their best phones. The price is 1,299 dollars, although it must be considered that as an introductory offer the company is offer accessories worth more than 365 dollars. More precisely an OPPO Watch X, an 80W SUPERVOOC charger and a case.
Camera button and alert slider
OPPO's design is among the best in the industry and this is clearly demonstrated in this model. It has a weight of 215 grams, which is not the highest in the category but not so low that it can boast, as the company does. The ergonomics are magnificent and it doesn't feel heavy or awkward given its curved corners.
At the back we have a camera module that the brand defines as compactbut it's quite big. And this is normal, given the photographic system that this mobile includes. The finish of the device they gave us is Glacier White, and while it doesn't feel particularly premium to the touch, it's on par with its competitors.
Where you start to see new things is on the sides. Not at the top or bottom, where the main speaker or the charging port with the SIM slot is, but on the sides. On one we have the two volume buttons and the power button, but also a haptic button like that of iPhones, which is used to activate the camera or record a video.
On the other side we have a button that, without being new, we have not seen for a long time, the Alert slider. It is a hardware element that controls the sound of the mobilebeing able to put it in sound, silent or vibrating mode. Personally, I've never been a fan of this type of solution, but many users like it.
The construction of the mobile is protected from water and dust by the IP69 resistance certificationplus a system that allows you to use your cell phone with wet hands, which is great if you're at the gym, pool, or just got out of the shower. As we can see, in this section the OPPO Find X8 Pro does not have any drawbacks.
A very fast mobile
A few days ago we were able to analyze the new realme GT 7 Pro, the first smartphone to arrive in Europe with the processor Snapdragon 8 Elite. We explain the sensations to you in this test, but it is the most powerful mobile phone we have tested. The new OPPO, as strange as it may seem, It does not opt for this same processor and stays with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 used by the VIVO X200 Pro.
The feeling is very similar, even if it's not the same. However, it is so similar that only the most demanding users, those playing more advanced titles, and those looking to do synthetic benchmarks will be able to find any differences. The MediaTek chipset is impressiveand the memory of the only variant sold in Europe is up to par.
We will have 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storagenot stretchable. This allows us to play games, use background apps, have floating social media windows while using demanding apps… The feeling is so good that we can't consider it a drawback. that OPPO did not opt for the Qualcomm chip.
It is also worth highlighting the haptic systemwhich gives a remarkable answer, and that of refrigeration, which prevents the mobile from heating up in the slightest even when playing titles that require a lot of power. It appears that this also benefits automia, as we will see later.
A remarkable screen
In the multimedia section OPPO didn't make any big boasts. It features a cutting-edge 6.78-inch OLED panel and a resolution of 2780 x 1264 px. The maximum refresh rate is 120Hz and the brightness is 4,500 nits. These are good numbers, but not the best.
This does not pose a problem when using this screen, and Its visualization is always good except for one moment: when there are reflections. It behaves like the rest of the phones on the market, with one exception: the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. We have already mentioned it in the realme review and we repeat it here. Samsung has set a new standard for displays in terms of reflection management, making its flagship the best in this department.
Another aspect that seemed to go out of fashion but we see is not the case is the curvature of the panel. The Find X8 Pro has all four sides of the screen curvedvery lightly, which makes it very comfortable to use but there are some inconveniences when using the keyboard keys to the extreme.
Below the screen is the fingerprint sensorwhich is fast and comfortable, and which even allows us to launch applications if we configure it that way. However, we still consider the lift-to-activate and facial unlock duo to be more practical, which makes the mobile phone operational simply by picking it up and looking at it.
Incredible zoom
The flagship feature of this model is undoubtedly the camera. OPPO has already collaborated with Hasselblad for certain exercises after the debut of this brand in the mobile sector with OnePlus. This allowed the color management to be really good, one of the best in fact.
Added to this is high-level hardware with a system we've never seen before: four 50 MP cameras on the back. There is a normal angle, an ultra wide angle and two optical zooms, both of the periscopic type. If a few weeks ago we were wondering if the VIVO X200 Pro was going to take the position of zoom king against the S24 Ultra, today we can say that there is a new competitor.
The quality of the main camera is superb, as is the shooting speed. Color management, thanks to collaboration with Hasselbladmakes the images look like they were taken with a professional SLR camera. In addition, the video also remains at a high level even when changing optics, although it does not reach the height of Apple mobile phones.
The ultra-wide angle is perhaps the lens that goes most unnoticed, but it doesn't lack quality for that. And the two stars are his two periscopic zooms, 3x and 6xto which is added a 2x but which results from the cutting of the main sensor. Color consistency is another one of those things that shows how well OPPO has done it.
In front we have a 32 Mpx camera that recalls the best of Chinese brands, like HONOR or Xiaomi. And that's a compliment, because these are the manufacturers who are in the lead when it comes to front camera quality, ahead of Samsung or Apple.
