During the last years Foldable phones have become the pinnacle of mobile technologythe only thing that seems to prevent the sector from settling into the forms established in 2007 by the iPhone. Brands like Samsung have launched numerous foldable models, and Chinese companies like Xiaomi and HONOR have done the same.
The latest to join the trend was ZTE, which a few months ago presented a foldable phone whose price was one of its main purchasing arguments. This terminal is the basis on which the Nubia Flip 5G was created, a mobile that we had the opportunity to briefly test at the MWC in Barcelona. At that conference we had the opportunity to know the launch price, but not for the moment.
Now, ZTE has confirmed the arrival in our country of this Nubia Flip, which maintains the price that had been made official, 599 dollarsmaking it the cheapest foldable phone on the market, less than half the expected price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, 1,330 dollars, which will be presented in a few weeks. It can be purchased on Amazon or Vodafone, and in July it will also be available on Yoigo and other stores.
This model stands out for its construction quality, and of course because of its form factor, which allows it to be folded over half the open surface. It has a circular external screen for certain notifications and actions, with a diagonal of 1.43 inches. It is suitable for using the rear camera to take selfies, for example, since it has higher quality than the previous one.
The hinge is very hard and I like itbeing able to put it at 90 degrees to use the phone as a tripod, watch something, make a video call or simply take a photo without having to ask someone. The 6.9-inch screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate features OLED technology and FHD + resolution.
The camera the front is 16 Mpx and the rear is 50 Mpx. There is also a 2MP rear camera. There is no optical zoom or wide angle, which shows the sacrifices that have to be made to be able to market a foldable at a reasonable price.
Where there have been no budget cuts is in power. The Nubia Flip 5G has a Snapdragon 7 generation 1, 256 GB of internal memoryYes 8 GB of RAM memoryexpandable via virtual memory up to 20 GB. The battery is 4,310mAh and has 33W wired chargingbut not wireless charging.
ZTE is clear that Europe is a country where price is essential, as it has shown in other launches, and is convinced that its brand image, which still resonates with many users, is a point in favor of this launch. A foldable for 600 has compromises, yes, but it also offers things that other phones can’t dream of.
