YouTube Premium offers an ad-free experience when watching videos on the platform, as well as advanced features on the platform and access to the YouTube service. Streaming music on YouTube. However, YouTube Premium is also a service that can be expensive, especially since it increased its price last September.
The company behind the platform plans to offer a cheaper version, but with fewer benefits. It is about YouTube Premium Litea subscription model that Google had launched a few years ago but which seemed to have ceased to exist, and now the company has brought it back first in certain territories, leaving the doors open to expand it in the rest of the world.
Here are the benefits of YouTube Premium Lite and the differences with YouTube Premium
YouTube Premium Lite is generally more limited in features than YouTube Premium, but it’s also cheaper: the price of Premium Lite in the territories where it’s currently available is about half what the standard YouTube Premium subscription costs.
However, this lower price has some very significant differences compared to the original Premium. In general, here are the benefits offered by YouTube Premium:
- Video playback no advertising advertisement
- Download videos for offline viewing and playback in the background
- Access to the entire YouTube Music catalog and features
Instead, YouTube Premium Lite only removes ads on the platform. This means that the “Lite” version of the service does not include content download features or access to YouTube Music.
For some users, including myself, having access to downloadable content and YouTube Music is almost as important as having an ad-free experience on YouTube. However, YouTube Premium Lite appears to be an alternative designed for those who only want to eliminate ads of the platform, but they do not use or are not interested in the rest of the functions. In addition, there are even several tricks to listen to videos with the screen off without paying Premium.
Google is testing YouTube Premium Lite only in certain territories, including Germany, where the family plan Premium Lite offer 6.99 dollarswhile the standard YouTube Premium family plan costs 11.99 dollars, the same as in Europe. Premium Lite is also available for testing in Australia and Thailand. As we mentioned, this version of the service is again in the testing phase, but we hope to be able to access this alternative in Europe and Latin America in the near future.
