Gasoline is expensive, that’s for sure, so any help with getting a little cheaper fuel is always welcome. You can use Waylet at Repsol to save a few cents or find the gas station that offers you the best price in your area. Doing it from memory would be crazy, but luckily there are plenty of apps and websites for finding cheap gas stations. But it’s always best to use the same app you use for directions and not have to switch between them.
Google Maps tells us the price of gas stations, but there is another application that has the data for years and, in addition, does it intuitively: it’s Waze
Waze helps you find cheap gas
Those who have used Waze for years are more than aware of the issue, but those who prefer Google Maps may be surprised at how much the app, also owned by Google, has a best cheap gas station search than the other great Google Maps app.
Finding the cheapest gas with Waze is as easy as opening the search engine and tapping the gas station icon. If you are already on a route, you can do the same by pulling down the information panel and pressing gas station icon.
In both cases, a list with the nearest petrol stations and their reference prices, with the advantage that the map information is included and with a color code that shows how the prices are compared to the average. Prices in green are the lowest, while those in red are the most expensive.
How Waze displays prices of gasoline on the map is one of its main advantages over Google Maps, since in this case all the prices are displayed in the same way, in a globe that highlights the one that is selected.
In either case, you can tap on the gas station to see the prices of each type of fuel and, if they convince you, start a route to said gas station. If you are already on a route, you have the option of adding it as a stop.
The only downside to Waze’s gas station search is that it no longer seems to let us choose the type of fuel for our car as before, although the option is still available in some regions and we hope it will return. Google announced something similar for Google Maps, although the option isn’t active globally either. If you want to check if your Waze retains this useful option, look for the setting of Service stations.
If you have it, not only will you find the possibility to choose the type of fuel – which is used to show you the prices of gas stations nearby – but you will also be able to select your favorite gas stations and choose between sort results by gas pricesomething that doesn’t happen by default (closest ones are shown first).
