Over the past few weeks, it has moved on to a top news line SSD swap el, a bug present on some Macs with M1. Our colleague Julio César has already explained the problem, its effects and possible solutions in an in-depth analysis, but we wanted to count on him today to tell us in depth. We also had time to review the other apps we install on our Macs as soon as we activate them for the first time.
Software update and repair program as possible solutions
As we know, swapping SSD is excessive reading and writing to hard drive, which reduces its longevity prematurely. Hard drives of all types are degraded with use, and SSDs are no different. The problem arises when the system abuses the paging system which allows it to take advantage of free disk space.
All SSD manufacturers offer a rewrite limit below which the drive should function properly. From there, your storage can be reduced or slowed down. When we come to the case of Macs with M1, we see that there are some users who are not affected, others who are slightly affected and some aggressively.
As we have discussed, Apple has two solutions on the table. The first is that this is fixed through software, fixing the error with an update. Perhaps attenuate it in a first approximation and eliminate it in the next one. And for computers that have been affected, offer a free repair program.
