Well, it looks like in the end we are going to have a few surprises before the presentation of iOS 16 at WWDC 2022 that we have just confirmed. Apple just released the early betas of iOS 15.5, iPadOS 15.5, watchOS 8.6, tvOS 15.5 and macOS Monterey 12.4 to the developer community.
The “last hurrah” of iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey
For now it is still early to tell if there is any important news in these betas, which arrive three weeks after the stable versions of iOS 15.4 and other equivalents in the rest of the operating systems. Apple hasn’t specified anything, although it’s not uncommon to see curious discoveries as developers begin to review source code.
What we can say with sufficient certainty is that these releases will be the latest major updates to iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey. With them, a few final rough edges will be ironed out before all the resources and talent from Apple Park are diverted to iOS 16 betas and future major releases. From there, we will only see rather minor security fixes.
As we always tell you, our recommendation is not to install beta versions of Apple’s operating systems on your everyday devices. Remember that these are unstable versions with errors that could endanger the integrity of your data, so only install these betas if you are completely sure of what you are doing. We should have the final version of iOS 15.5 in about 4, 5 or 6 weeks if the schedule doesn’t differ too much from previous betas.
