After years of exaggerated claims about smartphone screens filled with fancy terms like oleophobic, ceramic nanocrystals, and antimicrobial, we’ve become desensitized to it all. So when Samsung bragged that the Galaxy S24 Ultra offered a new standard of visual clarity, we didn’t pay it much attention.
But Corning’s new Gorilla Armor has a trick that’s actually pretty amazing and one that you’ll enjoy without needing to drop it first. In addition to “exceptional scratch resistance,” Samsung says Corning’s new cover material reduces reflections by up to 75 percent. And based on the first images of the new phone, it’s the best display feature since the iPhone 4’s Retina display.
As you can see in the image above from Ice Universe on X (formerly Twitter), the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s screen is much darker, sharper and clearer under bright light, eliminating the need ‘increase the brightness and twist the phone. unnatural angles to read what is on the screen. It’s a remarkable upgrade over any other phone and the type of feature that Apple would name and dedicate an entire section of the iPhone site to.
Apple also uses Corning glass for the iPhone, but opted for the company’s Ceramic Shield technology, which it has used since the iPhone 12. However, with the scratch and glare resistance of the new Gorilla Armor, we’d like to see Apple make the change with the iPhone 16 Pro.
