Having more battery in your mobile phone is more than just an obsession for many users: it’s a necessity. If we use our cell phone all day, whether for leisure or work, we will find that it is very easy to exhaust the entire battery in just a few hours.
What’s frustrating is that improvements in batteries and consumption they are not noticed in real use that consumers give. It seems that technology has not progressed at all for several years, when in fact the opposite is true; Android has several tricks to improve the battery, and in terms of hardware, it has also been greatly improved. The problem is that modern cell phones are becoming more powerful and have brighter screens, which translates into greater power consumption.
Always on battery
The solution that many people choose is external batteries, but this comes with its own problems and inconveniences; To get started, you need to track not one, but two batteries, make sure both are charged, and wait the necessary time to recharge them. Although fast charging is the aspect of batteries that has progressed the most in recent years, it still requires too much time if you are in a hurry.
A possible solution was presented at CES 2024, which reinvents the concept of external batteries. It’s called Swapery and in just a few hours it has managed to attract attention thanks to its innovative battery swap system, which allows you to obtain a new one and recharged in just seven seconds.
The idea is very simple and consists of two parts. To start, a classic external battery which connects to the USB-C port of our cell phone and can be attached to the back of the device in its own compartment. Like other similar devices, this external battery will recharge the internal battery of the mobile phone and give us more hours of use.
The second part of the concept is the charging station, which Instead of recharging the battery, exchange the one we have for a new one; As the batteries are stored in a dedicated compartment, simply leave the phone on the base and the used battery will automatically be removed and a new one will be inserted which will already be fully charged. The process only lasts seven seconds and does not require any connection cable, just leave the cell phone in the base during this time; so, in practice, it is as if we had “recharged” the mobile in seven seconds. As soon as the new battery is inserted, it will start charging the mobile battery; and the used battery will start charging inside the base, preparing for the next exchange when we exhaust the one we have.
This interesting concept can eliminate the need to charge your cell phone, at least efficiently; We will no longer have to wait for the mobile to recharge because you will always have a spare battery connected. Although the press images and videos only show operation with an iPhone, in theory there should be no problem with an Android, since the battery system does not use MagSafe to attach to the back of the phone.
There are still some doubts about Swapery, the main ones being price and availability; The official website already allows you to sign up for the presale, but it’s unclear when this will take place or how much it will cost.
