Two years ago, with Android 12, the transition from Material Design to Material You was made. It’s nothing more than a change in the design language of the system, choosing to give a common style to the whole system, from a recognizable icon format to a consistent color scheme and a simplification of elements. And this, in the latest Google Photos update it is something that is obvious.
In version 6.38 of the application, this is where we can see how settings are now much more intuitive by grouping the available options into fewer panels. A change that is not yet visible to everyone, but that will gradually reach everyone who is in this version.
less is more
It is believed that the architect Mies Van der Rohe was the author of this “Less is more” (“less is more”) and the truth is that he could not have been more right in contexts like this . We cannot say that Google Photos has always been a complex application, but we can say that your settings were pretty messed up and, in recent versions, misaligned with the idea of Material You.
However, in the latest update it got a facelift and we see how now They are divided into six sections, which are so intuitive that we can know at any time that we are going to find ourselves there. Also, they add an icon on the left to have a better reference if possible.
In the previous image you can see how these parameters were previously categorized and how they are now categorized in these blocks, with this small addition of having an icon for the:
- Copy: all settings related to backing up photos and videos to the Google cloud.
- Notifications: configuration related to the type of notifications we want to receive from the application.
- Preferences: options for grouping photos with similar faces, memories and photo grid playback.
- Share: all settings related to sharing an album with other people.
- Apps and devices: options to see which devices the photos are on, free up space that the photos take up on that device, and even the ability to transfer some of those photos to the terminal’s SD card (if it has one).
- Privacy: anything related to the privacy sections of the app, such as location permissions or privacy when sharing content.
As we have already said, Be patient if it still doesn’t come out. We have checked ourselves how, even with the latest version 3.8 of the app, this new settings menu appears on some devices and the old one appears on others. It will be a matter of days before everything appears updated.
