With less than a week to go until WWDC’s keynote, rumors continue to swirl as we anticipate one of the most important keynotes in Apple’s history as it unveils to the world the long-awaited AR headset. And according to a new report from Mark Gurman, it won’t be the only new product Apple will bring to the show.
In a tweet, Gurman reports that “several new Macs” will be coming to WWDC as one of the three “main areas of focus” of the keynote (various operating systems and the headset are the other two). Unsurprisingly, he says the keynote will be “one of Apple’s longest and will easily exceed two hours.”
We’ve long expected Apple to debut the 15-inch MacBook Air at WWDC, but Gurman’s tweet indicates that many models are coming. That means an update to the Mac Studio, which still runs an M1 chip, Apple’s first silicon-based Mac Pro, and a 24-inch iMac could all receive updates at WWDC.
If Apple updates the Mac Studio or the Mac Pro, that also means the M2 Ultra chip will also arrive. Apple introduced the M2 Max processor in January with the 2023 MacBook Pro, but the M1 Ultra still holds the crown as the fastest processor for Mac, which makes things more than a little confusing for buyers. It’s possible we’ll get the M3 processor as well, although recent rumors suggest the chip won’t arrive until 2023 or 2024.
We also expect macOS 14 to debut, although the update is likely to be small with few notable new features. You can watch the WWDC keynote live from 10 a.m. PT Monday.
