Withings presented this small urine reader at CES 2023.

It was what we needed to see. And we don’t say that ironically but literally. We currently have all kinds of accessories and apps available to analyze all kinds of data about our health from the iPhone and Apple Watch. But we had never seen a urine reader.

Withings announced your device U-Scan (yes, Urine-Scan) which is able to analyze the quality of urine so that a user can find out from his iPhone if the excess fluid produced by our metabolism is in good condition.

Imagine being so calmly, chillon the couch when suddenly you get a notification on your iPhone that says, “Your urine is fine.”

It’s exciting to see how, year after year, technology continues to advance by leaps and bounds and, no, once again it’s not a question of… (a piece of urine he was about to write) an irony. This is a feature that is as original as it is practical, especially for users who have had hydration problemsillnesses like colic in the kidneys or sudden changes in their menstrual cycles, to name a few examples. This can be very useful!

What were we going to do, what am I missing! According to Withings, its U-Scan urine reader measures 90 millimeters in diameter

and is designed to be placed inside toilets and collect urine samples. After detecting the presence of urine, the device sends it to a small reader which performs a test. Finally, the test is analyzed by a chemical reaction of an optical module. Apparently it can test multiple urine samples simultaneously to provide more reliable results.

Once the analysis is done, it is sent directly to iPhone and Android smartphones via the official Withings app. U-Scan readers last up to 3 months before needing to be replaced.

And from what we can see in the screenshots, the Withings app will offer a series of missions related to the health of your urine such as having good eating habits or good hydration. It also has statistical graphs, news, schedules…

But it does not stop there. Of course not. The U-Scan also has the ability to analyze both the movements like the Pressure and the distance the flow (sorry, there was no better way to put it) of your urine through sensors inside the device.

Withings will launch its U-Scan in Europe from the second quarter of 2023 and will be available for $499.95. From now on, don’t forget to respect the privacy of your guests when they come to visit you at home… How times change!
