With the excitement AI was creating across the technology landscape, it was clear that it would eventually permeate our most common actions, like taking a selfie. Want to pose like a Roman gladiator, as if you had attended the legendary Woodstock concert or straight out of Japanese art? Artistic selfie 2 is now available in the Google Arts & Culture app.
In 2018, Google had the genius of an application that He compared our portraits with important paintings from History. It was called Art Selfie and all you had to do was take a photo with your cell phone and the application would search through all the museums and art galleries looking for the painting that best matches the image. Now, Google has decided to relaunch the application with a second part loaded with generative AI.
Google’s generative AI reconstructs your portraits
Like the first version, Art Selfie 2 is inspired by art to offer fun results but also they take advantage of it to teach art. The tool is already integrated into the Google Arts & Culture application and a few steps are enough to change our portraits forever.
Art Selfie 2 offers different styles linked to significant events in History, pictorial or cultural movements, all with a very specific style and setting. Once the selfie has been taken, the application allows you to choose the aspect to recreate so that Google’s AI can take care of generating the image from the captured selfie.
The application adapts the face to the needs of the choice, generates an associated background and combines all levels so that the image perfectly matches the requested style
To use this tool to generate historical selfies, you need to perform the following process:
- Download the Google Arts & Culture app from the Google Play Store. Is free.
- Open the app and search Artistic selfie 2. It’s currently in the app header.
- Give him access to the camera so he can capture your images. You cannot upload photos from gallery to the tool, you need to do them right now
- Once the photo is taken, select the artistic style you want for your selfie. The application will take care of analyzing your face with AI, generating everything else according to your choice. The process takes less than 30 seconds and requires Internet access (Art Selfie 2 uploads the image to Google Cloud servers so generation can be done there).
- Once Art Selfie 2 is finished, it will show you the result on the screen; which you can share or save as you wish. Additionally, you can switch between art styles without taking a new portrait, since the first one still works.
We found it to be a very curious and informative tool, perfect for sending “adjusted” selfies to friends. Plus, Google Arts & Culture is a huge app: you’ll find a ton of cultural information there.
