The price of electricity continues to be a hot topic, particularly affected by the war in Ukraine and the import of Russian gas. In this context, it is not surprising that searches for “how to save on electricity” or “how to save on heating” have become very popular on Google.

The company has realized this and today announced new features in response to this trend. Google says it wants to help users with easy-to-understand information on how they can lower their bill.
Save electricity with Google
Starting today, European Google users will find new headings when performing related searches, such as “electricity prices” or “energy crisis in Europe”. These new boxes will appear at the top, before search results, and display a variety of information gleaned from news articles, local information, or even financial aid if our region or government provides it.
Another way to pay less for electricity is to use it smarter. To do this, Google will display the advice of the International Energy Agency to consume less electricity with the appliances in our home, such as lowering the thermostat or adjusting our heating; these tips will be displayed next to the web search results.
This new function will arrive from today in 29 countries and 22 different languages across Europe.
Today’s release follows the path of other innovations Google implemented this year designed for energy savings. For example, Google Maps has recently been updated to find the cheapest gas stations in the area where we are, marking the places directly on the map and allowing us to decide directly according to the price per litre. And if we search for gas stations on Maps, on a map with establishment information, we will find the price of gasoline and diesel directly.
