One of the best WhatsApp innovations of recent years is undoubtedly the temporary messages, which are automatically deleted after a time that we can configure; In the same way, we can also share images that are deleted after a certain time.

This function allows us to use WhatsApp with some peace of mind that our messages will not always remain accessible as usual; in that sense, it’s more like a conventional in-person conversation. Messages are only retained for a set period of time, such as 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days.
Save temporary messages, the new “superpower”
However, temporary messages also open the door to new issues and considerations. For example, there may be temporary messages that we want to save after the deadline, or that some chat participants deem important enough for the world to see.
To solve this problem, WhatsApp today introduced what it calls a “superpower” to save temporary messages even after the set time. The new feature is called “Keep in chat”, and as the name suggests, it allows us to keep temporary messages in the chat.
To keep a message in the WhatsApp application, just long press on the message in question; At the top where the reply and delete buttons are, a new bookmark button will now appear. If we press it, the message will be saved and will not be deleted after the time has elapsed; all participants will be able to see it until the user stops keeping it. This is great in group chats, for example, to make sure everyone can see an important message. The messages that we have marked in this way will appear with an icon and we can see them in the “Keep messages” folder.
Of course, this function can be abused, by keeping messages that you no longer want to see. This is where the “superpower” mentioned by WhatsApp comes in. Whenever one of our temporary messages is kept by someone else, we will receive a notice and we can undo the action; the message will disappear within the period we set. We will always have the last word in our posts, and if we don’t want them preserved, we can skip it.
New saved messages will arrive over the next few weeks in the Android app.
