Although YouTube was born as a web page for computers, nowadays more and more people are enjoying their favorite videos on their mobile phones or tablets, thanks to the official YouTube app for Android and iOS. But this experience could be better, and more suitable for mobile use.
For example, one of the big problems with watching videos on cell phones is that the screen is touch-sensitive; Thus, any contact, no matter how small, makes the interface react. If we are watching a video, this means that the interface may appear and cover part of the image, remove us from full screen, or even completely pause the video.
Fortunately, YouTube has already found a solution, although there are two bad news: for starters, it is only temporarily available as part of a trial period; and is only available to YouTube Premium users.
Good news from YouTube
The novelty is very simple, which is why it’s surprising that it took so long to come. This is a youtube screen lock which, once active, will prevent the screen from reacting to our accidental touches. Therefore, even if we touch the screen while playing a video, the video will not be paused, the interface will not appear, and there will be no sort of viewing interruption.
To achieve this function, we need to follow two steps. First of all, and as we have already mentioned, we must an account with YouTube Premium, YouTube’s paid service that provides access to benefits such as the removal of ads, functions such as video downloads, but also new experimental features. This is the case with this feature, which is considered “experimental” because it has not been fully implemented for all users.
Once we have a Premium account, we must enter the YouTube experiences page, and in the “Screen lock” section, we must click on the activation button. From then on, when we watch a full screen video on the mobile, we have to click on the gear button in the upper right corner; there we will find a new option, called “Lock screen”.
With the screen locked, our keys will do nothing; the video will not stop or cause playback interruptions. The only effect is that the brightness will decrease a little and a floating button will appear, which will allow us to unlock the screen if we want to pause the video or play another one.
This feature will be available until July 30for YouTube Premium users on Android and iOS.
