After the surprise launch of the iPad mini 7 with A17 Pro chip, Apple would be clear that OLED would be the next evolution of this model, although in the very long term
Ross Young, renowned display analyst and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, is very clear on the next step for the eighth generation iPad mini. Just last week, Apple launched the iPad mini 7 with the A17 Pro chip via a press release, but we would already be clear on what the evolution of this product line would be. OLED will come to Apple’s smallest iPad as expressed in X by Young himself.
Apple will abandon the LCD panel for an OLED panel, thus improving the quality of the iPad mini 8
After several generations of OLED on iPhone and Apple Watch, the benefits are visible to the naked eye which has the use of a panel with these characteristics and one with LCD. We get better brightness, greater contrast with deeper black colors and better battery efficiency. Although it is true that it is a technology that already exists and has been tested at Apple, its arrival on said iPad will not be so fast.. This iPad had consecutive updates between 2012 and 2015, some minor, and has only recently been updated 3 times between 2019 and 2024.
The iPad Pro M4 was the most recent product in the catalog to be upgraded to OLED. Next on the update roadmap would be the iPad Air and would end with the iPad minialthough it is also likely that the smaller model will surpass it and the iPad Air will take third place in terms of the series of OLED upgrades.
OLED will come to more Apple products
In addition to iPad mini and iPad Air, The next product that could receive OLED would be the iPhone SE 4. The long-awaited entry-level iPhone would finally receive a major overhaul, adapting to the range of latest iPhones launched by Apple.
Another product that would switch to OLED would be the MacBook Pro, although in this model the change is rumored to arrive until 2027. Coincidentally, this change would coincide with a next generation of LTPO3 in the iPhone; previously reported here on iPadizate.
Once OLED arrives in Mac territory, the other products that would gradually receive it would be the MacBook Air and the iMac although in later years. We are sure that once Apple adapts to the production and assembly of the iPad Pro with OLED, it will only be a matter of time before we receive information that those in Cupertino are are preparing to do so on the iPad Air, iPad mini and MacBook Pro.
In the same way, Ross Young’s reports are generally direct. He was the first to indicate the change in size of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with the 6.3 and 6.9 inches. He also expressed rumors about the new size of the 13-inch iPad Air, although he said it would have a miniLED, which ended up not being the case. Next year it will be interesting to see what Apple prepares for future releases starting with the iPhone SE and ending with the new Macs.
