Instagram continues to promote changes on platforms, not to mention photos or videos!
A wave of complaints from thousands of Instagram users has prompted the social network to relax certain measures taken in recent weeks in favor of video content, instead of traditional photos. A few days later, the Meta-owned company got to work letting photography enthusiasts know that we had forgotten about them. And so, it presented a new publication format as one of the main novelties.
According to its own CEO, Adam Mosseri, Instagram has started testing a new photo format that will allow users to post 9:16 images in the main feed. The proposal would change the current 4:5 format in images, while the new format would make them more similar to what we see in stories, when the user wants it.
Currently, when uploading a tall image as a post, the app will crop it to fit an 8:10 aspect ratio. And that is what will change. According to Mosséri.
You can have great videos, but you can’t have great photos on Instagram. So we thought maybe we should make sure we treat both equally.
Changes before review
A few weeks ago, a group of Instagram users, including sister duo Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, joined a petition calling to “get Instagram back to being Instagram” and “stop trying to ‘be TikTok’. The campaign was created by a group of photographers over the loss of importance of still images on the service.
And although the company has confirmed that the video format will be very important on the social network, for now everything shows that the changes will happen gradually, and apparently taking into account the approval of users.
