Carl Pei is one of the personalities who has been to Mobile World Congress 2023. This is the co-founder of OnePlus and promoter of Nothing and we saw him “freak out” when he came across a copy of Nothing Phone (1), but we really weren’t expecting anything from Nothing -it was no joke- in this event.
However, as they say, I expected to find silver… and I found gold, and something similar happened with Pei. And it is that, in an interview, he confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2) will have a Snapdragon Series 8
A Nothing Phone (2) that will go up in category?
The Nothing Phone (1) is a very solid phone. Good hardware, good software and good cameras that have improved over time. And the design, of course, is something that has caught the attention of other manufacturers and when you see a OnePlus with backlight you immediately think of Nothing.
However, something that disappointed some was the chosen SoCa Snapdragon 778+ which is more than solvent with good software, but which puts it directly in the mid-range.
Now, and in an interview with TechCrunch, Pei confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2) will ship a Snapdragon 8 Series. That means it’ll go up a notch from the first model, but we really don’t know anything else.
It could be a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which would bump up the price, or opt for a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 which we keep seeing in recently announced phones like the realme GT3.
And… yeah, he didn’t say anything else about the new phone except that they are going to focus a lot more on the software. Pei confirmed that they have a stronger track record from the experience gained and will push both the design and the system.
According to Pei, don’t expect a Nothing Foldable. At least in the short term
And, of course, when we have Carl Pei in front of us and at an event where we are interested in foldable cell phones (like the Honor Magic V for example and screens like those of Motorola), it was time to ask yourself a question : Can we expect a foldable Nothing? The answer was a resounding “no”.
By the way, in the same interview, Pei said he would not denounce UniHertz, the company that made the copy of Nothing Phone. “They’re small and that wouldn’t help anyone.”
