After analyzing the HONOR Magic6 Pro as well as its surprising Magic V2 foldable mobile phone, the Chinese manufacturer joins Samsung and Google to be one of the first to bring functions based on artificial intelligence to its smartphones with Magic Portal. It does this after the launch of Android 14 with Magic OS 8 and its “magic” functions a little over a week ago.
HONOR’s goal is clear: to be one of the leading premium technology brands in Europe, as well as one of the first to offer AI experiences such as the ability to anticipate the user so that it automatically presents appropriate apps, by analyzing text and images images from user discussions.
In an interview with Bruce Huang, CEO of HONOR in Europe, in EL ESPAÑOL – El Androide Libre we talked with the country’s boss about how HONOR faces user privacy in Magic Portal, the future of the brand in the national territory as well as the way in which They face updates on old models.
Regarding the Honor Magic6 Pro’s new AI function, Magic Portal, which reads all user messages to provide shortcuts to applications like Google Maps, how will Honor protect users’ privacy?
Magic Portal relies on using user data to create a unique experience. In reality, on Android it is not possible to use a specific storage system for user privacy, but all data is protected by Honor MagicGuard with ePrivacy seal certification.
What does the magic of Magic Portal mean? that there is no need to wait for a certain type of content to take the user directly to the application they want or need. We always do it from the user’s point of view to improve the different scenarios they face and thus save them time in their daily lives.
Do AI-based experiences all work from the device or so-called on the device?
Yes, all Magic Portal functions are processed from the mobile on the device. Our perspective is based on all AI functions still operating from the device. Everything the AI learns from the user stays on their phone and no type of data is uploaded to the cloud.
When will Magic OS 8 be available for older phones?
We will announce the upgrade plan to Magic OS 8.0 soon.
A question related to your new HONOR MagicBook Pro 16 laptop, why is there no date for its launch in Europe?
This is mainly due to one reason and the answer to this question: what is the product that most interests the Spanish consumer? Our data analyzes have taught us that in the current period we entered as a brand a few years ago, we need to focus on specific devices to establish stable communication with our customers.
Our HONOR Pad 9 tablet is now available on the Spanish market as one of those devices that interest the Spanish consumer. The laptop would be the next step to follow in Europe.
How do you see the future of mobile technology or how businesses are facing it in such a competitive scenario?
Artificial intelligence is the most important topic of the year and the next three or five years. The future will be AI-driven and HONOR as a brand will embrace it with unique experiences based on user intent to significantly improve your relationship with your mobile device.
Our current goal in the new AI-based era is to fully collaborate with other brands: be with Qualcomm, with Intel or with Microsoft, as it could be with another leading technology company in the sector.
The message we want to convey is that we want to develop the best user experience with the help of AI and to do this we are open to collaborating with industry leaders in the different scenarios we may face. This is our goal and what we want to do.
At the moment, HONOR’s market share in Europe is not very high, what will be the brand’s true position in the Spanish market?
Since 2022 we have doubled our sales, but currently if you ask me about market share, I would prefer to say that our goal is to focus on the user, how to approach them as a brand and what value we can offer to our future customers. .
That’s why we not only focus on market share, but also on the data we manage. We need to think about everything that lies behind this data to position ourselves as a premium brand in Europe. We want to provide our customers with unique user experiences and very specific smartphones to improve their daily lives. What we are looking for is to differentiate ourselves to offer a differentiating story that reflects the image of the HONOR brand.
One of our goals is to make our communication as clear as possible and to reach as many users as possible so that they know our HONOR brand. In the next two years we should have a single market and we are on track to achieve this.
What type of products would you like to introduce HONOR to the European and Spanish market in the medium and long term?
At HONOR we focus on launching premium devices to offer the Spanish consumer a unique product and unparalleled service to our customers, but we also consider different price segments to meet the different needs of the general public.
From our catalog perspective, we offer a wide range of products from high-end to mid-range to low-end. We also include accessories and all types of devices such as wearables, laptops or even smart watches.
What makes HONOR mobile phones different from those of other manufacturers?
One of the biggest differences is the person-centered perspective of our products. We develop our devices with the aim of improving the daily lives of our customers.
In photography we have AI Motion Sensing, capable of capturing excellent moving photographs like no other mobile phone available on the Spanish market. It is the ultimate example to improve the lives of users who purchase our cell phones so that they can share their best moments with spectacular photographs that enrich their lives.
Is HONOR having difficulties with European regulations?
We comply with all current laws and regulations and this does not slow down the deployment of our company both in Europe and here in Europe.
