Unless we are subscribed to YouTube Premium, the free and universal version of the famous video app usually introduces advertisements before and during video playback. The usual thing is that there are between 1 and 3 ads, but several users notified of the inclusion of up to 10 ads before the videos.
Obviously, no one doubted the veracity of users who, through Reddit and other places, reported the appearance of 10 advertisements before a video. However, we had no official communication from youtube till now
Only in long videos and for YouTube on TVs
Several weeks ago, reports started emerging of some users claiming even adding screenshots as a test because YouTube added them. 10 ads before playing some videos. It only seemed to be for a small number of people, and they didn’t always see so many ads before playing.
Such an advertisement had, yes, a short duration. However, concern was evident among witnesses to these complaints. While it’s understandable that advertising is the way to monetize content, 10 different, uninterrupted ads seem excessive to say the least.
Speaking to 9to5Google recently, a YouTube spokesperson confirmed it was an “experiment” which, at least for now, is over. And although this spokesperson confirmed that it was only for a small number of users, they confirmed that it was a worldwide test.
This same spokesperson explained that this type of advertising packs were included in long videos and in the YouTube application on televisions “to improve the experience […] reduce commercial breaks
For now, and with confirmation that the experiment has ended, placement of ads before videos has returned to normal for all users. This, yes, we must not exclude that in the future it will be something standard, since it was not declared whether the test passed or not. In fact, while it might seem excessive, it might make sense to watch all the ads at once to watch the long videos in one sitting.
