USA (and much of Europe) is plunged into a heat wave which plunges us all into abnormally high temperatures even for the heat wave. I write this while in Terrassa (Barcelona) we are close to 40ºC, which translates into an environment that is not at all pleasant.
But as we’ve discussed before, people aren’t the only ones having trouble with this heat. Our iPhones also suffer the consequences of high temperatures, with the origin of all these problems in the battery. Maybe you noticed that your iPhone got drained earlier than usual?
Caution: keep iPhone out of direct sunlight and use it less
The iPhone battery, like that of all electronic devices, contains fluids inside. If it gets too hot, these fluids begin to evaporate, which can damage sensors such as voltage. The consequence is that the iPhone misunderstanding how fast to charge and charging too fast
What to do before that? The iPhone already has its own security system that disables the use of its interface when it notices that it is too hot, although in addition to this we will also notice other effects such as the impossibility to use the camera flash or a reduction. in general iPhone performance.
There are several ways to get an iPhone to avoid getting too hot. Let’s see them briefly:
Avoid direct sunlight and enclosed areas without air conditioning
Don’t leave iPhone in direct sunlight or in a car parked on the street. Do not leave it in a very closed place in your home either. If you have air conditioning you can always leave it nearby, or if you are outside you can always cover it with a press so that it is not exposed to daylight.
Beware of demanding applications
Park the use of intensive applications, such as games or services that depend on continuous use of GPS. Also be careful if you are used to killing time with apps like TikTok, YouTube or Instagram: vertical videos also consume a lot of energy.
If you notice that the iPhone is getting very hot, stop using it. You can also put it on airplane mode or even turn it off. Also, be careful if you take a lot of photos: it might be a good idea to put the phone in airplane mode while you do so.
Consider the load
If you need to charge your iPhone in a place without air conditioning, keep in mind that wireless charging will increase the temperature of the phone. Fast wired charging will also do this, so it’s best to charge with a 5W “trickle charge” cable and adapter. This is the mode that “punishes” the battery the least when the ambient temperature is high.
Another more curious solution can be the fans that are attached to the back of the iPhone using MagSafe, which dissipate the heat from inside the phone and therefore take care of the battery and extend its life. . It’s not a must, but if you use your phone a lot in the summer sun for work, it might be a purchase to consider.
