The risk of inexpensive Android phones

Do I need a good and cheap cell phone to buy?

"My 100 euros phone does the same for yours." This is one of the phrases that we have been hearing a lot in recent times, in particular thanks to the huge improvements achieved by low-end mobile devices from the last few years to the present.

But be careful because Google has a big problem with inexpensive Android phones. A few months ago we told you the experience of a British NGO Privacy International member who had to get a new cellphone in the Philippines because of a broken one. Determined for a cheap cellphone, it would have been something out of the ordinary, but it was a real purchase (it was a mobile tool full of pre-installed apps that "scanned" the user and his data.

Is everything allowed in the market for cheap Android phones?

90% of China's applications collect user data, according to the study

It will definitely happen to you at some point in your life. Buy a cellphone, and unlock include dozens of applications installed on the device. This is what is called blotware and although today most of the products allow you to uninstall this type of app – most of it unnecessarily – there is still plenty to prevent the user from deleting it.

Although blotware is present in both high- and low-end phones, we can say that later there will be more problems. This was made known to Google by a group of 50 human rights and human rights organizations by sending a letter, which requires Sundar Photosi itself to to protect Android users from the horrible blotware.

Recode, one of the reporters in response to the letter said, emphasizes another major difference between the Google and Apple's apps. While the bite-sized apple company still manages everything included as standard on its iPhone, Google doesn't. Android phones are manufacturers and sometimes mobile operators decide which applications are installed first and that's a big problem.

Apps

The risk is far greater with cheap Android phones for lesser-known products. Because while neither Samsung, Huawei nor Xiaomi will introduce malware to their models, Who can convince you that some products don't? Obviously, Google doesn't.

"When it comes to economic devices, we see many unsafe security practices. We believe that privacy should not be a special luxury for those who can only buy expensive devices such as the iPhone ”- says Christopher Weatherhead, leader of Privacy International.

Should Google really control Android? Should it look like Apple? These are questions in which ink streams are written and they produce different ideas. Problems are few. First of all in the Android realm there are hundreds of developers, in just one iOS, so being able to control all these types seems impossible. Second, Google's great control could mean the loss of freedom, an idea that has been felt by Android since birth.

The question is whether users, and especially manufacturers, would allow Google to access their facilities to make them private and secure. That is, it makes Android a very closed and controlled operating system, something that many would not like. Either way, the only thing is Google has a problem with many of the cheapest edges available in the market, and especially with blotware. Our view is that you're betting on well-known brands such as Xiaomi itself or realme when buying cheaper channels.
