Like every year, we eagerly await the new versions of our favorite operating system. It’s now been six months since Android 14 has been rolling out to the wide range of devices, and we’re looking to the future with Android 15 of which we know some features.
There’s still almost six months left to see the next version, as it will likely arrive with the Pixel 9 in the fall. However, beta versions and rumors are gradually giving us information. news that I can’t wait any longer.
Widgets on the lock screen
Widgets are part of Android 14 and were renewed a few years ago with the arrival of Material You. However, in the competition, they were able to hit the mark by taking them to first place. locked screen, which our favorite operating system has already done. Of course, without success.
In one of the beta versions of the Pixel’s quarterly updates, they were able to activate them. They will come back after disappearing in Android Lollipop, and while we don’t have more details about his behavior, it’s something I celebrate. Thus, they will prevent us from unlocking the mobile for small actions, as well as inform us about them.
Archive apps instead of uninstalling them
This will not be new to Android 15, since this possibility is already available on your mobile. However, it remains to be seen whether it will arrive manually. Application archiving is a new way to free up space: It does not uninstall applications but puts them into hibernation, taking up less space.
Once archived, only the data will be kept, and by pressing the icon we will have it fully prepared for us again. This seems like a minor novelty, but This will be perfect for more modest phones.
A simple way to make life easier for the less savvy
Some crafting layers have long had a simple or simple mode, which minimizes the interface to make it easier to use. Useful for older people who don’t understand their smartphone or for times when we prefer to prioritize basic functionality.
We have alternatives like launchers, or even the solution which, as they say, integrates many layers. However, as a Google system enthusiast, I prefer native.
Improved web navigation in apps
The WebView component is renewed in the next update of our mobile phones. What is this? This chance to integrated browser which gives third-party applications the ability to bring us to the network when they need to.
We might not notice it too much if we have a mid-range or high-end device, with hardware of a certain height, but Android is still committed to inclusion. This improvement will allow less powerful mobile phones to not have to recharge this component: will stay in RAM
A haptic response to match
The haptic engine included in our Android phones has improved greatly compared to previous generations. I noticed this on my Pixel 6A, although when I touch an Apple phone I notice some differences. In this sense, the first Developer Preview of Android 15 brought good news: the bar with which we adjust the brightness will be responsive.
The higher the brightness level we set, the higher the vibration. These changes seem insignificant, but I assure you that improve user experience. I think haptic feedback is one of the most underrated elements of Android.
More control over the battery
Changing the battery of our cell phone with a new one is not as simple as opening the cover, it is a thing of the past. However, we can do it with a little skill or by entrusting it to the technical service. Note that autonomy decreases
A new section will give us advice when the battery is low. degrading. Even if it was planned for Android 14 QPR2 (an update arrived a few days ago), we will have to wait for Android 15 for manufacturers to adapt it.
Bonus track: a core with the latest security and features
Finally an improvement for most geeks. Assuming Android uses a Linux kernel with some adaptations and fixes, gets closer to its origin. From now on, Pixels will move to version 6.1, closer to the current one main line 6.7.
Google has been working for years to ensure that the Android kernel doesn’t need changes, and while it’s certainly a complicated task, it’s closer. This will not only contribute more security for our mobile, but performance improvements and support for new hardware will come. It will be a little less visible, even with less impact, but it is an important change.
Thanks to all these new features, I’m looking forward to Android 15. We won’t see any significant changes in design, maybe a touch here and there, although This does not mean that it is a less relevant version. There are still many months to go but luckily we will have developer releases and betas figuring out the way.
