Beyond chatbots like ChatGPT, the AI image editing and creation This is one of the most successful elements of this whole generative artificial intelligence boom. And this is where some manufacturers like Samsung or Google have put a lot of effort. Apple, of course, doesn’t want to be left behind.
WWDC 2024 will be held on June 10 to present, among other things, iOS 18 and macOS 15. Two versions that will be loaded with artificial intelligence in general and elements of editing and image creation in particular. Actually, We have already disclosed what this would look like.
‘Generative Playground’ will be the new toy for the native Photos app
A report from Appleinsider reveals that Apple is working with a tool that company employees internally call “Generative Playground.” This probably won’t be the final name it receives upon release, although its features will be. And they have already become obvious.
They will be integrated into the native “Photos” app like the rest of the editing elements we have had for years on Mac, iPhone and iPad. There Deleting objects will be one of the flagship functionsbeing able to crop any element (including people) from a photograph and fill that space naturally with AI without making the photograph appear altered.
Another highly anticipated feature that might eventually reach the final audience is that of create images from scratch using generative AI. We learned a few days ago that, among other things, personalized emojis can be created for each situation, something designed to express emotions that are not reflected in the hundreds of emojis that already exist.
However, it’s not entirely clear whether images can be created entirely from scratch, in the manner of MidJourney and other image creation tools. Yes, however, it seems we could have advanced editing elements like what Apple has already shown with MGIE. This model allows you to add simple instructions in natural language and then the AI is responsible for editing the image by adding or removing objects, but also by modifying parameters such as saturation or contrast.
We also talk about integration with iMessage, something that a priori also seems available in the final version for the public. Regardless, it does not appear that this constitutes a limitation on sharing these photographs with AI through other applications such as WhatsApp or Telegram. Ultimately, the epicenter will be in the “Photos” app or at least that’s what is described in the Appleinsider leak.
Fortunately, all this which still seems to be a mystery is about to be revealed completely and officially since it is Apple which is showing it. It will be, as we said in the introduction, next June 10. There is just over a week left before this big event in which Apple will finally try to catch up in an area like generative artificial intelligence in which its big rivals already have a lot of advantages. As a lifeline, Apple has guaranteed not to go it alone and OpenAI could be the key guest player at this party.
