At an event held in Milan, Xiaomi presented its new ecosystem products for Europe. The Asian firm has brought new robot vacuum cleaners and scooters to Europe as well as a tablet that had already been announced in China and will now be available in this market, the Xiaomi Pad 6. It is the basic model since, for the moment , the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro will remain in the country of origin of the company.
This is a device designed to be used as a homepagewhich will serve to work, enjoy leisure and even control the Xiaomi ecosystem through the Mi Home app, to which Xiaomi officials have given great importance.
The company’s ambition is clear: it’s a do-it-all tablet for everyone. It is aimed at all audiences and all uses, becoming synonymous with recommendation when someone asks for advice on which tablet to buy. An answer which, without thinking too much for the moment, is generally: “an iPad”; to upgrade to Xiaomi’s “Pad 6”. This master purchase which is synonymous with infallible recommendation.
A consistent design
A tablet of this type usually spends a lot of time in the hand, so good construction is appreciated. The frames are straight, but they don’t get sharp in the palm.
The front bezels are noticeable, but they’re the right size to rest our fingers on when picking it up. A success on the part of Xiaomi is to put the front camera, 8 Mpx, on one of the larger sideswhich makes video calls with the tablet horizontally more comfortable.
On the perimeter we have four speakers, which give us full and loud sound, although we weren’t able to test it very thoroughly because the environment we were in was somewhat noisy.
Obviously we have the USB-C port, which allows us to charge the 8840 mAh battery with a maximum speed of 33 W. Here perhaps a little more speed would have been appreciated, such as that found in the OnePlus Pad that we tested a few days ago. Of course, a tablet of this type does not have wireless charging, but it does have a magnetic pin system for connecting a keyboard.
Qualcomm and big screen
Xiaomi has chosen to use a High-end processor from Qualcomm, although not belonging to the last generation. The chosen one is the Snapdragon 870, which allows us to play with the tablet and use applications in parallel, using the multi-window.
However, we could not test this because it was not possible to install applications or games, but the Xiaomi Pad 5 already complied with it in this regard, and the processor belonged to an older generation than that that we have now.
The RAM and ROM memory has not been confirmed, so we do not know if we will have 6 and 8 GB in the first case or 128 and 256 GB in the second, with one of the possible variants. As expected, he Android 13 and all Google apps. It’s something that’s usually taken for granted, but there are already brands like Huawei that are direct rivals to Xiaomi, and they don’t have those apps and services natively.
The Xiaomi Pad 6 is a medium-sized tablet, with a diagonal of 11 inches and a panel with LCD technology that provides decent brightness indoors. We weren’t able to take it outside of the testing area at the Milan event, but given the panel it uses it shouldn’t be a problem using it outdoors, except in very specific situations, such as mid-afternoon sun. , and in a place without shade
Colors are highly customizable thanks to MIUI 14, and the interface is designed to be able to squeeze that huge diagonal, with features like resizable folders with functional icons, HONOR style. Special mention to Mi Home, Xiaomi’s home automation application that we can use on this tablet, in addition to other products such as televisions or mobile phones, and which makes this device the control center of our home.
Am I buying it?
Since Google has not put the Pixel tablet on sale in Europe, Xiaomi has the option of converting the Xiaomi Pad as default mid-range tablet.
It has rivals like the OnePlus Pad or some Samsung models, but an aggressive price and the existence of accessories like the keyboard case can make it a worthy successor to the Xiaomi Pad 5.
The only question we ask ourselves is whether there is a market in our country for this type of tablet, around 500 dollars, more expensive than the cheap tablets from Amazon, Redmi or realme but which do not arrive to compete with Apple’s iPads, mainly because of their ecosystem.
And that’s the big question we have with the Xiaomi Pad 6Whether the Android app ecosystem will work better than on the OnePlus Pad. Otherwise, through no fault of the manufacturer, it could affect the perception of potential buyers.
