Globalization, this broad term which has consequences such that one of the main powers in the world depends largely on another. This is what happens to The United States depends on China for electronic devices. Despite the fact that companies like Apple export a good portion of their production to India, China ultimately remains the world’s great factory (even if they don’t want it to be).
One of the priorities put forward by the United States is cut ties with companies closely linked to the Chinese government. Hence the war against TikTok or, as is currently the case, the investigation of companies linked to American companies like Apple.
Apple’s deal with BOE could be in vain
Apple started adding OLED panels to its devices in 2017 with the iPhone X and has continued to implement them over successive generations and now also with the M4 iPad Pro. Since then, the Koreans LG Display and Samsung Display have been its main suppliers, but also BOE Technology.
The latter have been (and continue to be) Apple’s primary suppliers for the supply of LCD panels, which they continue to use in most iPads, as well as computers and iPhone models such as the iPhone SE 3. However, the relationship between the two companies is said to be hanging by a thread. And it’s not either party’s fault. Or at least not directly.
As revealed in Neowin, US lawmakers see BOE as too close to Chinese government. So much so that, according to the aforementioned media, conversations are taking place between the highest defense authorities of the United States and their counterparts in the Chinese Communist Party, which has ruled the region for decades.
John Molenaar, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, reportedly said he was concerned that BOE and Tianma Microelectronics would take advantage of their key position in supply chains to obtain key military secrets. In this context, he believes that American national security could be threatened.
So, if the United States ends up banning business relations between its companies and BOE, Apple could be seriously affected. And even more when They’re Close to a Million Dollar Deal for the iPhone SE 4which will be launched in 2025 and should bring OLED panels which, in Apple’s idea, would be manufactured by BOE.
