The weather in Android Auto? It’s possible with this curious free application

Android, application, Auto, Curious, free, Weather

Android Auto brings our favorite apps to the car screen, although Google continues to maintain strict control over which apps are allowed and which aren’t. Weather apps don’t (yet) have a place in Android Auto, but there is one that has managed to slip into a corner: Meteology.

Android Auto showed before Coolwalk on current temperature and status in the top bar, and from there all you can do is tap the Weather icon and listen to Google Assistant’s concise explanation of the weather. That, or try meteorology.

Weather in Android Auto

The only way you have Discover the weather in Android Auto is to ask the Google Assistant about it, something you can do directly by tapping the Weather icon, which appears in the app drawer. Now, the information the Google Assistant gives you is somewhat limited: it’s limited to saying the current temperature and status, as well as the predicted one for the day.

The best apps for Android Auto

If you’re looking for an app to see the weather on Android Auto, we have good news and bad news. The bad news is that Google doesn’t allow non-navigation apps to have an interface, so you won’t be able to see the simplified information visually. What you can do is hear the day’s forecast more fully.

Meteology on mobile

Meteology is one of the few applications that have dared to offer the weather forecast in android auto, and for that he had to adapt to the requirements: to work only by audio. Even when you use it on your mobile, the application only displays some data in the text: all the importance is given to the spoken forecast, as if it were a podcast.

In Android Auto, the app works like any other music app, with a tab for the current forecast, one for the news, an ephemeris and a glossary of weather terms, in case you’ve ever wondered what a katabatic wind is. From the mobile app, you can disable these extra tabs.

The forecasts

Meteology and Android Auto

When reading our forecast for the day, the meteorologist we have chosen in the application (five to choose from) will tell us the forecast for today and the following days, as well as the current status, in a short audio message but which covers much more than what the Google Assistant tells us. From the application we can also choose between different background music, if we wish.

The bet is certainly original, especially since there are practically no similar alternatives in Android Auto, although it has the great disadvantage that the sound is in english, at least for now, in addition to the limitation of the system not being able to visually display the information. We’ll see if Google opens its hands on this in the future or not.
