Now that WhatsApp is starting to enable the Communities feature for a few beta users, we were hoping to say goodbye to WhatsApp’s camera shortcut forever, as Communities has taken its place. We now know from WaBetaInfo that this is probably not the case: access will simply change places.
According to this information, WhatsApp is prepare a new button for the camera and that will go to the right of the current search button in the application header. It will therefore continue to be quite accessible, although without being able to access it with a gesture as before.
New camera button
WhatsApp many years ago that included a shortcut for your camera: a centralized place to take a picture, edit it, and then share it as a status or individual post with some of your contacts. Technically, you can do the same from any chat, especially now that you can change the recipient of a photo after taking it.
Anyway, since then the camera lives in WhatsApp as the first tab, but its place is about to be taken by the communities icon. We thought that would be the end of the WhatsApp camera, but apparently the engineers found a new place to put it: next to the search button.
WaBetaInfo found this new access in WhatsApp 2.22.19.7 Beta for Android, although it is not yet active for users. As expected, it will work exactly the same as the previous tab, with the only difference that you will have to press the button and you will not be able to swipe right, like before.
If you have used this feature frequently, you will be pleased to know that will be maintained after the communities have reached the whole world. Otherwise, it will be one more little button to ignore on the interface. The normal thing is that we see this change as soon as the community function is activated in our WhatsApp, something that could happen at any time, but for which we do not yet have a date.
