We are in the midst of a platform transition and this move seems illogical, but the rumors already said it a while ago and now MacRumors insists: Apple has on hold. launch a latest Mac with an Intel chip before finally saying goodbye to this company.
A “last hurray” for professionals who still need an x86 architecture
This computer it would be the Mac Pro, and give a little more headroom to professionals who for some reason need an Intel chip to do their jobs. Few are, but they still exist and they need to perform tasks like installing Windows. The design of this Mac Pro would not change, it would be a minor update to its specifications.
But that doesn’t mean Apple hasn’t done anything else with this Mac Pro – rumors also say the company is getting ready. a completely new and redesigned model that uses its own chips. It would have a more compact design (let’s hope that it retains a certain modularity to satisfy professionals).
As for the chip, it can have up to 32 processor cores and 128 graphics cores to break any competitor. In a professional desktop computer, there are no longer any ventilation or battery limitations, and this is where we should see Apple Silicon chips at their maximum capacities.
The last question is: When will we see all of this? The Intel Mac Pro chip could arrive at any time next year because it is a minor and very specialized update, with a press release and without having to depend on a big event. There are already references to this model in Xcode, so it wouldn’t be strange if they surprised us sooner rather than later.
The model with Apple Silicon chips would be surrounded by more expectations, and it should arrive by the end of 2022 if Cupertino is to keep the promise of a two-year transition. With the pandemic and the logistical issues that exist around the world, I would give them a little more leeway and even consider 2023.
