I’ll admit it to you: I may be an expert on all things Apple, but I’m a disaster with plants.. And now that I’ve started introducing them into my home, I’ve seen it “murder” beings that are as low maintenance as cacti.
Therefore, when someone gives me traditional gifts these days, like Easter flowers (or poinsettias as some call them), I’m starting to have tremors. But luckily there is an app for iOS 17 that can this help me save these plants?.
PictureThis, a gardener in your iPhone
The app is called PictureThis and is able to check the health of poinsettias and any other plants just by taking a photo. For people without experience in care, it is able to give them a second life.
To display a button: here is how a photograph of this plant allowed me to identify it, with all its names and a complete sheet detailing the care what we need to do and whether the factory is suitable for beginners or “less committed people”. Come on, that touched me.
In the file we also have data such as the appropriate temperature at which the plant should be, whether or not it is practical to have sunlight, or what type of soil we should use in the pot to keep it correctly. You even have a map with the areas in which the plant grows, how often should you water it, if you need fertilizer or when to prune it.
In addition, in this same file you have a cultural section in which the history of this plant, its symbolism and some curious facts are explained. And as a social network you can share your plant photo with other users of the same application.
An infection detected with a single photograph
The photograph I used has already surprised me: it turns out that there is an infection on one of the leaves of my poinsettia (detected it from a spot), and it is suggested to me that the solution is to prune this leaf before the infection spreads to the rest of the plant. I had no idea about this type of disease, so the application was already able to save the life of this plant.
You also have more resources at your fingertips in this same warning, like photographs with more signs of a damaged plant in case you have them in your flowers as well. As a gardening assistant, PictureThis is a well-designed tool for those of us who don’t have experience as gardeners.
ImageThis can be used for free for seven days, something you can take advantage of if your intention is simply to take care of any poinsettias you might have at home during the holidays. You have the free download in the App Store.
But if the app motivates you to have your own little vegetable garden and you want to use it regularly on your iPhone, then the price is an annual subscription of 29.99 dollars per year. They cost less than 3 dollars per month, which is acceptable if you are serious about all the plants you want to have in your home.
Some similar alternative applications that can help you are PlantNet, completely free; o Botan which also requires a subscription to use all its functions.
