On Android we have access to different web browsers, both from the Play Store and other third-party stores. Thus, each user can choose according to their preferences, although the truth is that most tend to opt for an old acquaintance: Google Chrome.
Last year, we were aware of Chrome’s dominance as the most used browser on mobile phones worldwide. The statistics dictated it, with overwhelming numbers. Today, Statcounter has published the results of its analysis: Here’s how users are distributed between available browsers.
Google Chrome is not giving in, Edge is collapsing on mobile and growing on desktop
At the end of August, users continue to give Google Chrome the throne of most used browsers in the worldStatcounter gives Google browser a share of 66.17%, higher than the last record.
It should be noted that these statistics correspond to August 2024, the year in which the positions have not changed much. Nevertheless, Statcounter provides a graph of the evolution since August 2023. Moreover, it does not only take into account the use of browsers in Google’s OS, Apple’s iPhones also enter the equation.
This is what makes Safari the second most used web browser on mobile phones: it reaches a percentage of 23.28%, which is not negligible. Who follows in third place? We could think of Microsoft’s Edge, but Samsung closes the podium: Samsung Internet scores 4.13%.
Edge was third in the 2023 results, it seems that the latest changes like the inclusion of Copilot have not brought the good news you were waiting for from Microsoft. It is curious that Samsung’s solution has gained followers; last year it was the fourth most used browser on mobile phones.
Opera, UC Browser and Firefox occupy the next positions with 2.04%, 1.77% and 0.58% respectively. Edge drops to seventh position with a share of 0.45%, an unflattering figure. Curiously, on computers, the Microsoft browser comes in second place: it reaches 13.8%, still far from Chrome’s 64.55%.
The big casualty of mobile phones is Edge, and even its latest developments have failed to captivate smartphone users, as we have seen. While, Chrome’s reign does not seem to be in dangerGoogle’s dominance of the web is brutal. Will these numbers change in the future? We’ll be there to tell you.
