What were the exact reasons for Jony Ive’s departure? A New York Times article reveals critical facts that led Ive to make the final decision.
There are many reasons they become known later, especially in the Jony Ive affair and his dismissal at Apple. An article by New York Times published the real reasons for his goodbye. The information was based on the publication of the book “After Steve: How Apple Became a Trillion-Dollar Company and Lost Its Soul” by author Tripp Mickle. Frustration and culture change of the Cupertino company are the main reasons.
Big changes and transformation from within at Apple forced Jony Ive out of the company
For almost 3 decades, Jony Ive devoted himself body, soul and spirit to Apple in the design of the brand’s products. It’s an emblem and a banner that will be talked about for the rest of Apple’s working life. I left in 2019, a farewell no one expected
According to the article, Ive and Jobs had a more than close relationship. One of the former chief designer’s early successes was the iMac. With the death of Steve Jobs, it was expected that the company would not remain the same by what Jobs himself meant. Tim Cook arrived and Apple was transformed in every way. The design theme apparently didn’t have as much of an impact on Cook anymore.. It was no longer Jobs visiting every opportunity to see progress.
The time has come and a product (in addition to factors in the work team) like the Apple Watch to share the fates between Ive and Apple. He says the change in focus of the Apple Watch, from fashion (now) oriented to the field of fitness, I approached Cook to tell him that he was already tired and with the firm intention of taking a step back.
Jony Ive Final Decision Night
From that point on, events continued to occur that caused Jony Ive to think negative thoughts. Cook removed the responsibilities from the former chief designer for fear that his departure would directly affect the price of publicly traded stocks. It wasn’t enough either. I changed the way he worked at Apple. Product reviews were conducted daily and so i would go through all of this without having any views or feedback on the designs for weeks
The point of fed up reaches the iPhone X call a meeting where I was 3 hours late. He checked every point of the prints and left without making a decision on the product.
One evening in June 2019, Jony Ive invited his design teams to a cinema to see a film called “Yesterday”. The film tackles a theme about the eternal conflict between art and commerce, dyes that were consistent with what would happen later.
Art needs adequate space and support to develop. When you’re really tall, that’s especially important.
A day later, a new meeting was called in which Ive declared that by finishing Apple Park, his time at Apple was over. He asked them to keep the identity that characterizes the bitten apple brand. Design at Apple today (and since the day I walked through the back door) has become almost irrelevant.
