Not all flights go smoothly. Especially when it comes to Apple devices like AirTags or AirPods. And you don’t have to look far, since this is what happened last week in Madrid with a tourist bus is the best example.
As reported by El Mundo, at least four individuals participated in a robbery with which they obtained a a loot of around 15,000 dollars between backpacks, perfumes, cash, cell phones and headphones. And yes, AirPods included, these being the key to the subsequent arrest.
AirPods played a vital role in locating thieves
Last week, a tourist bus stopped in the Madrid neighborhood of San Blas for dinner. Properly parked and waiting for the tourists to return, the driver of the vehicle was absent for a few minutes. It is not specified how many minutes, but it only took at least three people to completely loot the bus.
Once he returned and realized what had happened, the driver called the authorities to report the theft. The Madrid Municipal Police arrived at the scene, also accompanied by a SAMUR unit because the driver, probably due to nerves, suffered an anxiety attack.
The normal thing in these situations is that the police collect statements from the driver and passengers. However, one of the tourists, also a victim of the theft, helped the police locate the location of the thieves
Among the stolen items were several AirPods, one of the few headphones on the market with geolocation capabilities. All you had to do was open the “Search” app on your iPhone and locate your stolen AirPods. Thanks to this, the agents managed to reach the place where the thieves had kept the loot and, although the exact location has not been revealed, it is known that they have not left the city of Madrid.
Thus, the Municipal Police of Madrid managed to arrest four men with ages between 28 and 46. Thanks to this, they were able to verify that three of them had several search and arrest warrants for belonging to criminal organizations. Thus, thanks to some “simple” AirPods, it was possible to find some tracks from an organized group.
