After taking the Mac mini apart and showing us the new M1 chip, the teardowns continue, this time of the HomePod mini. The company’s new speaker thus went through several screwdrivers to show all of the parts inside.
Delicate repairs and fixed power cord
As is the custom with all Apple products after a launch, someone gets a unit to take it apart. In this case, the images come from a forum in MacRumors where we see the images of the speaker and all of its components. As we can read in the entry, the teardown is similar to that of the current HomePod, but starting from the bottom:
The disassembly procedure is a little different and you have to be careful because the mesh does not have long chains. The HomePod Mini always opens from the top, but the mesh must first be peeled off from the bottom. Do not attempt to remove the plastic touchscreen top surface like on the original HomePod.
A useful recommendation if we want to open our HomePod mini, although judging from the pictures we shouldn’t try. Repairability of such a small product is always tricky, and the HomePod mini is no exception. Especially the textile mesh that surrounds the speaker, which is very difficult to remove without breaking.
As for the rest of the components, more or less, we were already expecting this distribution, since in the presentation Apple gave us enough details. What yes we were able to confirm that the power cord cannot be unplugged as happens with the original HomePod.
It must be said that, judging by the small size of the components that make up the HomePod, it is not easy to get an idea of its impressive sound quality. The hardware is really only part, the magic comes from the software.
