When we talk about playing on our Android mobile, it is inevitable to consider the Play Store as the official store for applications and games. The Google store is home to offline games, ideal for situations in which we do not have connectivity, and beyond the popular titles that dominate the covers, there are still more possibilities outside.
For example, Netflix is another important source of mobile games, with a subscription to the streaming platform you can download games for free. And if you are more into retro games, this site is a real gem, with more than 30,000 titles available. You might think you’ll have to run them on your computer, but no: your Android phone can do it too.
An inexhaustible library of free games
Genbeta’s colleagues shared important information abandonware game library. If you don’t know what this word means, we can easily summarize it: games that are no longer distributed commercially, which have also ended their support and sometimes had their copyrights changed.
Therefore, abandonware games can be run legally and for free, they only have one drawback: as a rule, they are very old, ideal if retro is your thing, but they were run in platforms that are now obsolete. Introducing My Abandonware, a comprehensive library of titles that many will remember.
Currently, the site brings together some 30,900 games from various genres, many of which are legendary gems from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Pacman, Sim City, Prince of Persia, Arkanoid, test drive…the list is almost inexhaustible, it would take several lifetimes to enjoy them all.
Additionally, the website allows you to search for games by name, year, genre, publisher, developer, and even platform. Are you looking for one for MS-DOS but can’t remember the name? No problem with advanced filters. As if that weren’t enough, each title comes with its own screenshots, description and lots of information: size, languages, release date and the download links
If it has it, on each tab you will see the additional content of the game, like extensions. In some cases, it is even possible to play from the browser without installing anything at all. You also don’t need to register to download the files, although it is advisable to do so to create our favorites list.
Now for games that aren’t very enjoyable from the browser or Android just doesn’t work, there is a solution. And this goes through the emulators of these old platforms.
Do you want to play the legendary “Prince of Persia”? Magic Dosbox is available for free on Play Store. Gekko C64 lets you run those that ran on the epic Commodore 64. In the case of LucasArts graphics adventures, ScummVM is the alternative. It will be as simple as downloading the game files and incorporating them into the corresponding emulator, so we will have adapted orders to our mobile.
