Third-party iPhone app offers the ability to record spatial videos in 4K at 30 fps for a small investment
It seems like A third-party app has already won the race against Apple to be the best app for recording space videos. According to UploadVR, this is Spatialify and allows recording in 4K at 30 fps unlike Apple’s native camera which records in 1080p. It’s a question of reflection since it’s not free, you will have to invest 3 dollars to get it.
Record better spatial videos with iPhone 15 Pro? Spatialify makes it possible
Although these spatial videos are designed to be viewed on a Vision Pro or Meta Quest, recording the best moments happening in front of you could prove invaluable if Apple releases its low-cost glasses. Interestingly, other apps outside of Apple’s environment are attracted to a feature that isn’t the brightest at the moment. as it cannot be enjoyed on any device.
And if that wasn’t enough, Spatialify also offers a 1080p 60fps option, which is a significant update in the spatial video environment. Additionally, it adds HDR capture. Apple does this with SDR (standard dynamic range). The first opinions were not long in coming. For example, Engadget reported that videos look much sharper in Vision Pro and the lighting in videos is more realistic thanks to HDR.
Given these advances, It is possible that Apple will improve this capability in the next version of iOS 18 but this is not confirmed. We’ve seen this before, with a third-party app taking advantage of the maximum capabilities of Apple’s camera. Do you remember Halide? This is a popular iPhone camera app that adds the ability to take photos in RAW, as well as manual controls.
Do space videos have a future?
It’s a new way to transmit and remember the memories we capture with the iPhone. Apple likes to provide almost everything in drops. Not providing the maximum possible capacity for viewing spatial videos is an example.
Probably, Apple isn’t sure it’ll scale to better resolution simply because it’s not happy with the results. This will be seen precisely at WWDC24, in the same way that we hope to see important news for visionOS.
